Here’s the thing about starting new projects: it’s never a good time.
There are always things that are pressing, other priorities that need to be accomplished. We already occupy 24 hours a day doing whatever it is we choose to do. When we start new things, we don’t add hours to the day. We just have to redistribute them.
November isn’t a good month for NaNoWriMo. Then again, no month is a good month. So we take on the challenge anyway.
This year, I took on the challenge.
Frankly, I went in knowing I would fail. I was traveling for half of November, so prioritizing writing was nearly impossible. Add in all my other (less voluntary) obligations, and NaNoWriMo was destined to fall apart from the beginning.
But I did…okay.
By that I mean that I intentionally wrote more last month–about 15,000 words total. More importantly, when I dedicate time to being creative, I find myself becoming more creative. I came up with some great ideas and developed some of them into quality material.
I suppose I technically failed NaNoWriMo. But it feels like a success.

Each has to define success in their own terms – If you went in knowing you couldn’t do the full 50,000 but just wanted something to push you to write more than you had been, then, well, since you did write more I’ll join you in calling that a success.

That was the idea. Just write more. And I definitely accomplished that.

I went in knowing that I could get close to 50k. I have four small kids, two of which are always home, so I knew I would be not sleeping for a month to achieve 50k, so I was hapoy with the 25k I wrote on my novella. It is a start, and I have many more months to finish it.

Way to go! You have 25k more than you did before, and more importantly a start to what you can now continue.

I dropped out for the first time in three years from NaBloPoMo. I guess I have something to work toward next year then.

I don’t think anyone fails NaNoWriMo, unless they sign up and don’t even start. I am also one who feels each person should set their own goal for winning. If 50k is not going to work then set a goal that is more attainable. So you’re not a loser. You’re a winner. Always have been!

I had the plan and idea, but my November exploded and I completely missed it. I’ll probably still attempt to construct a something anyway, I’m just annoyed I missed it…again. Well done on hitting 15k, very impressive!

So what if you did not complete 50k words, you posted 30 incredible microvember posts and that my friend is far far better achievement than 50k

Such kind words :) Most of those were prescheduled, though, so they weren’t written in November–regardless, a month of accomplishment.
