I’ve already been on break for a month, but for all you mortals (read: non-students), summer 2015 is about to begin, and with it, an ambitious list of books to be read!
1. A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore, which I’m reading along with the Lazy Lambs book club.
2. Love on the Road 2015, a collection of short stories from all over the world that I got in a Goodreads giveaway.
3. Going Bovine by Libba Bray, a YA novel in the style of Don Quixote.
4. The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. I read a few short stories by him in my freshman seminar and fell in love, but haven’t done anything about that since.
5. Order of Seven by Beth Teliho, which I’ve mentioned here before but need to actually get my hands on!
6. The Ghost of Milagro Creek by Melanie Sumner because it’s the book that’s been on my shelf longest (since summer 2012, people!) and I’ve never read it.
7. Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut because it’s been on my shelf almost as long as #6.
8. Shopgirl by Steve Martin. I once bought a copy of this book for $1 at a used bookstore and brought it on a plane to read, only to leave it in the seat-back pocket. I later found another $1 copy at the same store and snatched it up, vowing I would read it but not on a plane.
9. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, as part of the Read Harder Challenge (actually, 2-5 are also for that Challenge).
10. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri. She’s my best friend’s favorite author, and I’ve never read her work. It’s time.
What’s on your TBR for Summer 2015?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book blogging event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Pyramids – Terry Pratchett. Now he has passed on, I’ve come to realise I’ve read too little of his work. Both my ex-wife and my girlfriend are big fans, so that counts for something.
The Girl Who Played with Fire – Stieg Larsson. I liked the first one enough to read the second.
The Accusers – Lindsey Davis. Her stuff is amazing. A blend of crime and comedy set in 1st century Rome. I always feel her work is summer reading, which is why in the 12 years since I read the first in the series, I’m only on book 14 :-/ (I usually took them away with me on holiday to Greece). I’ll probably read a second one too.
Manhattan in Reverse – Peter F. Hamilton. What would summer be without a bit of hard scifi? This is new work for me too, I’ve never read any of his before.
Love all the People – Bill Hicks. Don’t know that much about him and I feel I should learn.
At least one classic – haven’t decided which yet. Flipping between Lorna Doone, Jane Eyre and Moby Dick (probably the first one)

These all sound like great options! Unfortunately, I don’t make too much time for reading, but next time I’m on vacay – I’ll be picking a book from this list!

Sounds good, Erin! I understand struggling to make time for reading.

Great list! I always love hearing what others are reading so I can add them to my TBR list, as I don’t have time to keep up otherwise with what good reads are out there. I’ll be reading over my textbook for the class I am teaching this summer on vaca, but I hope to have time to read a fun beach read sometime soon!

Ah yes during the school year I don’t read much because textbooks wear me out!

Would love to know if you end up reading/loving any of these!

I love reading, and I’ve got a stack of books I want to read. I would so much rather read a book than watch a TV show or a movie.

I need to read more!! I usually end up choosing writing instead.

Going Bovine is on my list for the 60 Books Challenge! It sounds like a fun take on Don Quixote!

I read only one lahiri book and I was disappointed. Not that it was not great writing, but the end! Just a long book about morose lives and an end
Beware! :P

Good for you! Please let us know if you get through all 10 this summer. Yes, I am “mortal.” :) That made me laugh.
