Drag out the duffel bag
And stuff it until the zipper
Pinches your new clothes
For the harsh winters you aren’t used to.
Slide in a few photos from high school,
Tell yourself you’ll keep in touch.
“We’ll talk every day!”
But you won’t.
Rehearse your speech: name, major, hometown
Favorite ice cream, what you did this summer.
Pack your hiking boots and swimsuit;
Adrenaline helps form bonds.
Test your suitcase
Make sure it isn’t too heavy.
If you can’t carry the weight on your own,
Leave it behind.

The hardest pack I ever had to do was to Japan. Two suitcases…. for a full year (I thought.) Turned out to be five.

That’s so tough. I made it to New York with 5 suitcases, and a lot of my stuff is still at home.

Halfway through my time in Japan, I had to visit home, then go through all my old things while my parents were moving to a smaller place. What I hadn’t brought I the the first two cases turned into one box. Of everything! I cried while throwing away some stuff, but in the end I feel less ‘attached’ to so much stuff, which is good.
Except books. Books are still a be necessity. Haha.

This is the weekend before the last full week of A to Z. You’re amazing for staying with us this long. Thanks for your commitment. You’re almost there. This event only happens once a year, so rest up and get ready for the home stretch!

Thanks Stephen! I had most of my posts prewritten so it hasn’t been too tough.

Right now I seems all I do is pack and unpack to repack again. My hubby goes where the work is and I join him. I know all about packing lists.

That’s rough! I haven’t moved much but I would hate that.

The weight limit on bags will you fly calls for creative packing. My daughter could only take one bag for an entire semester in Morocco but at least she didn’t need winter stuff.

I find packing a nightmare now that I have kids. I have to pull out my own stuff to cram in one more book, stuffed animal or (fill in the blank) for them. It will be nice when I can return to just carry on status.

My parents never carried our stuff as kids, so I’ve been trained my whole life to pack reasonably.

Great post. I never had to pack for college in this way, as when I went to university, I moved away from my parents and into an apartment and just packed all of my belongings. It’s surprising though,w hen you do pack for a relatively long stay soemwhere else, how much stuff you accumulate while there.

I’ve accumulated SO much here. And I kinda have two sets of everything now.
