It’s Theme Reveal Day for the April A to Z Challenge!
Admittedly it’s not that big of a reveal–last month I announced my theme when I announced my 1000 Voices Speak for Compassion topic–but regardless, it’s The Big Day.
I’ll spare you the drumroll: my theme is All Things College.
Even though I’m a full-time student, I only write about my experiences occasionally. I also rarely read college bloggers. There are obviously exceptions (ahem, see below), but often college bloggers tend to post a combination of these:
- Generic listicles like “22 Things You MUST Do During Freshman Year!”
- Monologues of the mundane details of their days. Rants about exam stress or boyfriend problems abound.
- Tips for studying or dorm room organization. Note that they highly recommend planners and Post-It notes. It’s revolutionary, really.
- Advice for how to dress “comfy-chic.” My constant uniform of jeans (if I’m out), sweats (if I’m in), and the same 7 tops in rotation is about as comfy and chic as my brainpower can muster.
But college is WAY more than those things.
For my April A to Z Challenge, I’ve got humorous and light-hearted posts filled with memes and ridiculous stories. I’ve got serious posts about the tougher side of this four-year period.
And I’ve got guest bloggers. Five incredible ladies who took my tougher letters and are making them their own. I don’t pretend my college experience is universal, so I wanted to feature other voices–plus, these four years are all about reaching out and forming long-lasting bonds.
Amy from The Kaleidoscoper was one of my very first blog friends and runs an excellent and thought-provoking blog about relationships, mental health, and leaving Christianity.
Amanda from Amanda Under Construction is one of my best friends in real life–she lives in my dorm and we often stay up late to discuss writing and the world.
Catherine from Never Stationary has guest blogged here before, but I’m always so impressed by that girl’s ability to make me feel that I wanted to bring her back.
Becca from Self-Reliance is a YouTube friend from way back in the day. Some day we’ll meet. We WILL. In the meantime, she’ll be here for a day.
Minnat from Yours Truly, Minnat has been long-form blogging her way through freshman year and all the emotions that come along with it.
Bonus: Rachel from Rachel Tries Life will be guest posting for my Firsts series on May 1! She’s lovely and will be transitioning us from an exclusively college focus back to the world as a whole.
I’m SO excited to feature all of them, and I can’t wait to showcase my own experiences as well!
If you’re doing the April A to Z Challenge, leave a comment with a link to your theme reveal (you may need to type something besides the link so it isn’t caught in my spam filter) so I can come visit your blog and be in awe at how awesome and creative you are!
Ooh, interesting, I look forward to seeing the inner working of college :). It been a while since I was at Uni, but it was one of the best times of my life.

Fun :) I have been in various colleges over the years (right now I am experimenting with the teaching side as a PhD student), and there are some great stories out there. College story slams are always the best, for a reason :) Happy A to Z!

This sounds like a really interesting theme. You’re right, college bloggers are quite underrepresented in the blogging community. Looking forward to your more personal/ridiculous stories in April!

Oh, this will be fun! I hardly ever blog about college, just the actual coursework I’ve done (and not a whole lot of that), just because I never had much to say about it. So I’m looking forward to seeing your topics!

I’ve only blogged about coursework once or twice–speech is SO technical that it would require way more explanation than it’s worth–so I’m excited to finally write about the thing that takes up the majority of my time!

Sounds very interesting. I had to laugh at the examples you gave or what most college bloggers blog about. And your example of what you wear. Sounds very like my daughter at BU.

It’s true though! I’m glad you enjoyed :)

Definitely a different perspective! I didn’t know you worked at a college–I suppose we learn something new every day :) Reader’s Choice should be interesting too!

I never knew there was a niche for college bloggers. As a college drop-out (as in, like, I was at university for two months), I look forward to learning about the things I missed out on. Your guest bloggers sound great too. Happy #AtoZchallenge.

There is, although it’s often broken up into different niches (book blogging, fashion blogging, etc.). Thanks for the well wishes & I’ll hopefully see you in April :)

I’m not participating in the Blogging from A-to-Z Challenge, but I am definitely intrigued by your April theme: All Things College. I look forward to seeing more over April about your college experiences and the experiences of your guest bloggers.
Kudos, Sabina!

Well, I’m looooong past college (though the RISD Masters in Textiles program looks pretty darn alluring). I went twice. First to UCSB for fine art (didn’t finish). Second to Otis College of Art and Design for Fashion, where they made me restart as a freshman.
I’ll vicariously relive all those awkward moments of my youth through you and your guest posters. Looking forward to it!

Hi Sabina, I’m returning the love from your comment on my blog for A to Z. I’m not just saying this (seriously) but I WILL be back. Having been through university (or college or whatever) I’m interested to see what everyone has to say. I went through engineering, which I think is a pretty different experience than going through psyc or something. But I don’t know! I’m about to find out?
