My Blogging Secret Santa absolutely hit the nail on the head.
I got the email from my college’s mail service that I had a package, and I went to pick it up. It contained Paper Towns by John Green.
John Green was a large fixture in my younger adolescence. He was a huge role model for me–he got me into making video blogs which later sent me to VidCon–and was one of the reasons I’m back into reading and writing after I’d lost interest.
Paper Towns, coincidentally, was the first book of his that I read. I’ve been meaning to go back and reread it, though, since I remember how much it inspired me then but can’t remember exact plot points. Plus, it’s becoming a movie in the not overly distant future.
I’ve actually misplaced the copy of the book I had at home (does Julia have it? Possibly), so now I’m back to having every John Green book on my bookshelf. The world has restored its order.
I expected that would be all. A humble, but thoughtful Secret Santa gift.
The next day I got another email asking me to come pick up a package.
My Secret Santa gift already came, I thought, What could this be?
This time the package was a box, not a padded envelope. Serious business, you guys.
I opened it and found a super awesome book-themed travel mug inside.
I’m an atypical college student. I never eat ramen, my Halloween costume was intentionally modest, and I don’t own a freakin’ travel mug.
Well. Now I do. But I didn’t. And I needed one. So my Secret Santa came through for me.
A note inside the package revealed her name, so I can thank her properly :)

I’ve only read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green so far. Must read more of his stuff, let me know what you’d recommend?

You should read Paper Towns next! He also has Looking for Alaska which is good but not my favorite. And he co-wrote some books–Let It Snow with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle which is a fun winter read (I hated the last five pages but the other 300some are pretty good), and Will Grayson Will Grayson with David Levithan which was great as well.

I’m so glad you love everything! I absolutely loved Paper Towns (I stayed up until 3am finishing it) & I’m so glad you didn’t have it. I’ve always wanted to go to vidcon but being in Michigan, it’s definitely something I need to save up for. I saw that travel mug & thought it was perfect since you said you were just getting into coffee I figured you might need one! Plus I thought the pattern was perfect too! :) I hope you had a great Christmas!

My trip to Vidcon last year cost $1000 total (plane, hotel, badge, food) but it was amazing so you should go! Late merry Christmas to you too :)

Aw that is a stunning travel mum… I have amazing lens travel mug I recieved from one of my friends. I adore it, it is someone on my Instagram feed. I was not a fan of the Faults in our Stars but maybe one day I will give this book a read. Having so much on you blog.

This one definitely has a different feel than TFIOS, although I like that one too–it’s worth a shot! I’ve seen those lens mugs, and that was actually my gift to my Secret Santa since she was a coffee lover and photography lover. So glad you’re enjoying your visit to my corner of the internet!
